Flowertown Players

Afternoon Acting Adventures
For Grades 5-8

This is a three week workshop, students will create the ultimate show based on a theme which changes each session as they write, produce, and perform an original show created by them! Under the guidance of Children's theatre director, Adrianne Dukes, students will gain exposure to all aspects of the stage from scriptwriting and creating the vision of the show with set, props and costumes, as well as acting skills like character building and voice & movement techniques. Each session lasts three weeks and culminates in a performance of the final production on the last day of class.

When: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 4 to 6pm starting on January 9th.
Cost: total cost of the workshop is $225. Payment can be made in installments with a deposit of $75 due at registration. Final Balance due on week before class begins. (Discounts offered for payments made in full & for siblings

The Next Generation

Have you ever wanted to produce your own show but haven't known where to start? This ten week interactive seminar will take you through every step of producing your own production:

-Learn How to choose and analyze a script
-Explore the design phase and what questions to ask.
-Discover what skill sets you have, what skills you need and learn how to assemble a team
-Creating a budget for a theatre project
-Directing Do's and Don'ts
-Casting Tips and Tricks
-Marketing... you mean you want people to watch this thing?!
-Overviews of sets, costumes, props, lighting, sound and makeup.
Taught by Artistic Director Sean Lakey who has been producing and directing theatre for over 15 years. Sean graduated from WCU with a BFA in theatre and has been the producing artistic director at the Flowertown Players for the last four years.

Rising Stars!

This ten week, hands on, intensive acting experience gives every actor involved the tolls they need to be better than their competition
-Learn the fundamentals of acting and quickly move on to advanced and specific acting techniques
-Learn how to deal with stage fright
-Find your strengths as an actor and learn how to overcome your weaknesses
-Learn varied acting and characterization techniques
-Learn how to effectively audition in an academic or Professional setting
-Relax and laugh with improv games
-Be exposed to a wide range of dramatic material spanning various time periods and places
Taught by Cody Smith who is a graduate of Coker College with an Honors BA in Theatre Performance. Cody has assisted the directors of the Woodland High school and Summerville High School theatre programs.
The STAR classes are available for adults and high school students.
This is a new class initiative from the Flowertown Players that plans to begin in February 2012. Class sizes will be small and space is limited so reserve your spot now. Classes will be held once a week for ten weeks for a cost of $200. For this registration fee each applicant will also receive:
-Exclusive VIP passes to all Final Dress Rehearsals of FTP shows for the rest of the Season
-Meet with actors and directors for Q&A after the performance
-A Custom Star T-shirt

Acting Out Summer Workshop

The Flowertown Players want to get the word out that we are gearing up for another fun filled summer with preparations for 2012's "Acting Out" Summer Workshop.

Last year's Summer Sessions were filled to maximum capacity, so please make sure to make your reservations early. Our Workshops are led for the third time by local director, Adrianne Dukes.
We are providing sessions for elementary school as well as middle school and high school level workshops. Full and half day sessions are available. Sign up today for three full weeks and an amazing theatre experience.

Midtown/Sheri Grace Productions & The Charleston Acting Studio

Charleston Acting Studio's Winter Class Session...

 ADULT ACTING 1 (18 & older) For those over age 18 who are curious about theatre, or those who simply want to broaden presentational and communication skills in a fun and safe environment, our Adult Acting I class is designed especially for you! Through spontaneity and play, we will explore the craft of acting and offer each student essential performance technique as well as refine communication and personal skills. Students will work on monologues and scene studies, and the class will culminate in a showcase presenting their work to friends and family.

ADULT ACTING 1 CLASSES WILL BE: WED 7PM – 9PM, STARTING JAN 11

ADULT ACTING II (18 and older, Advanced) will enhance performance technique and creativity through the exploration of ensemble. Ensemble is an approach to acting that aims for a unified affect and focuses on the play rather than the individualized performances. Using Viewpoints as well as improvisation students will work on select scenes and develop a final ensemble piece to present to friends and family in a final showcase.

ADULT ACTING 2 CLASS WILL BE TUES, 7PM-9PM, STARTING JAN 10

CREATIVE DRAMATICS (6-9 years) is a class designed to not only introduce theatre to the inquisitive child but also inspire the natural performer in all children. Using the art of play, students explore the craft of acting while developing imagination and performance skills. The activities focus on movement and speaking as well as foster poise and creativity. The children will take part in creating an original script, which will be performed on the final week for family and friends.

CLASSES WILL BE WED, 4:45 PM TO 6:15 PM, STARTING JAN 11

YOUTH ACTING CLASS (10 – 13) creates a fun and safe environment for students aged to explore the craft of acting and playwriting. Through movement and vocal based activities focused on exploration, spontaneity and play students will develop performance and creative thinking skills. Students will acquire not only essential acting skills but also more confid-ence and awareness of their community. The culmination of the 8-week course students will be an original script created and performed by the students.

YOUTH CLASSES WILL BE MONDAYS 4:45PM TO 6:15PM Starting Jan 30

TEEN ACTING CLASS (14-17 years) fosters the students' curiosity and passion for the craft of acting. Through movement and vocal based activities students gain essential performance skills of professional actors. Furthermore, students develop creative and critical thinking skills while using spontaneity and play to explore monologues and scenes. The 8-week class culminates in a performance showcasing the students' class work.

TEEN CLASSES WILL BE: MONDAYS, 6:30 PM TO 8:00 PM STARTING JAN.16

Young Playwright's Festival

Playwrights under 18 can send their plays in to be read and critiqued.  Several individual workshops will be held for each playwright.  At the and of the workshop period, 4 plays will be chosen and given a full production.

Creative Spark Center for the Arts is a private not for profit multi-disciplinary art center located in Mt. Pleasant.
